16(0) Sweet Words Of March Madness: 2008 NCAA 2nd Round – Davidson 74, Georgetown 70

By David Dennis / @DavidDTSS

(Ed’s Note: With the NCAA Tournament officially kicking off on March 18th/20th, we here at TSFJ will be giving the people 16(0) sweet words on 16 (bitter)sweet moments of March Madness past. Next up is David Dennis of The Smoking Section who also just so happens to be an alum of Davidson. Enjoy this quick personal story. Oh, and if we go over 160 words…well, our bad.)

Davidson set up a projector for the few students who stayed behind for Easter Break to watch the 2nd round. Steph just dropped 40 against Gonzaga so anything was possible when we took on Georgetown.

By the second half, we started to feel like it would be an embarrassing ordeal. Roy Hibbert’s guys built a 17-point lead. Then, Steph threw an alley-hoop from halfcourt to Max Gosselin and it seemed like next thing we knew, the lead was gone. The rest of the game was a blur of wet threes, jumping around and screaming at the top of our lungs. Sweet 16-bound. Davidson. Go figure.

The next day, I ran into Stephen in the library.

“Hey, look at this.”

He turned his computer screen to me, showing his Facebook page.

“This is wild. I don’t even know what’s going on right now.”

Hell, neither did we. But we were all just enjoying the ride.
