Cam Newton is receiving a well-deserved internet dragging due to a comment he made at his press conference yesterday.
Carolina Panthers beat writer Jourdan Rodrigue asked Newton about his teammate’s physicality in route running, to which he replied:
“It’s funny to hear a female talk about routes.”
And with that sexist remark, here are three things we can learn from Cam.
'Female' is condescending.
Many species are female, but only one species can be woman - humans. Are you speaking to or about a human? Then use “woman”. It is so easy to do. Try it.
Routes are football 101.
Easily understood by anyone -- especially if that person is a sports reporter whose job it is to analyze the game.
You are probably not as funny as you think you are.
Cam thought his comment would be met with knowing chuckles from fellow males in the room. It wasn’t. In fact, the room fell silent. Why? Well for one, it was sexist and rude. But also, he is not as funny as he thinks.
