In today's world of R&B, it seems like the newer artists are not only appreciating classic records but also getting the chance to collaborate with veteran singers to put a new spin on past hits. Over the last few years, rapper/singer Tory Lanez has released his Chixtape mixtape series to hold fans over in between his album and feature runs. As Lanez prepares to release his newest installment Chixtape 5 next week, he recruits T-Pain on his latest single, "Jerry Sprunger."

Lanez first teased "Jerry Sprunger" for fans back in December 2018, when he posted the a clip to Twitter with T-Pain's reaction. It's safe to say, the veteran was very pleased with the rookie's new version.

Last month, Lanez mentioned how Chixtape 5 would feature samples from the early 2000s era. Well, the singer didn't disappoint as he remixes the production and hook from T-Pain's 2005 debut hit, "I'm Sprung." On "Jerry Sprunger," T-Pain adds his own verse while the two singers join forces on the hook.

It's one thing for an artist to sample a song, but to also collaborate with the song's original artist on an updated version speaks volumes for each singer's craft, and also gives fans the nostalgic feels they search for in today's music. T-Pain fans are well aware of how much the singer has influenced a number of new artists and their sound, including Lanez, making "Jerry Sprunger" a perfect collaboration.

Personally, this weekend calls for a trip to Sydney as I play pokies for Aussies and look to get some sun on the beach. As I risk my money and a suntan, I'll be appreciating some early 2000's R&B and putting "Jerry Sprunger" in the rotation. Oh, and be sure to check out this week's pertinent reading material and remember...#MelodyPutYouOn!
