Heavyweight legend Mike Tyson believes that Tyson Fury “has Wilder’s number” in their upcoming trilogy fight in Paradise, Las Vegas. Tyson has said that the Bronze Bomber does not stand a chance with the Gypsy King.
The Gypsy King will defend his WBC and The Ring heavyweight titles, against the man he dethroned back in February 2020 – Deontay Wilder. With the bout just over a month away, heavyweight legend Mike Tyson has made his mind up about who will be victorious on the night.
Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3 | The Build Up
All the way back in December 2018, Wilder and Fury had their first encounter in the boxing ring. At the time, Wilder was undefeated, and accepted the challenge from Fury for the WBC heavyweight title. After 12 rounds, the result of the fight was a split draw, which was clearly not the end of this rivalry.
Then, the rematch came just over a year after the first fight, in February 2020. This was a completely different affair, with Fury dominating the undefeated champion. Following two knockdowns, the American heavyweight’s corner threw in the towel in the seventh round, declaring the Gypsy King as new WBC champion.
Since then, Wilder has spoken publicly stating a number of reasons as to why he lost the fight. These included his ring-walk attire, that Fury had cheated with his gloves, that his water was spiked – the list goes on.
Now, after a lot of reports and rumours, the trilogy fight is set, with Wilder getting his rematch. It’s a highly-anticipated fight, and there’s currently a lot of talk around the boxing world about the upcoming heavyweight title clash.
Mike Tyson’s Prediction
During a discussion on Tyson’s Hotboxin’ Podcast, Tyson made his predictions for the upcoming trilogy fight. With special guests Andy Ruiz Jr. (current heavyweight boxer that shocked the world with a win over Anthony Joshua in 2019) and Henry Cejudo (former UFC bantamweight and flyweight world champion), one topic of conversation was Fury vs Wilder.
Tyson said: “Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury, they’re making the loot, man. They’re making that money…”. Whilst Ruiz suggested that the fight could go either way, Tyson disagreed: “No way. Deontay Wilder has nothing to be sad about or complain, he fought a great fight. I just think Tyson Fury has his number”.
So, it’s quite clear that Iron Mike has made his mind up, and expects the Gypsy King to retain his WBC crown. Only time will tell, and we have over a month to wait and see if the former heavyweight is correct.
