Last Friday, as part of AEW Rampage: The First Dance, CM Punk showed up to reintroduce himself to the ring. As a hometown show in Chicago, Illinois, the former WWE Champion entered a ring for the first time in over six years. Here’s everything you need to know about what’s happened so far!

AEW Rampage: The First Dance

There were plenty of teases and hints at CM Punk turning up to AEW, and it was a highly-anticipated return by fans. The First Dance was the second show of AEW’s new Rampage program – aired on Friday nights. What a show it was!

When speaking about making his AEW debut, Punk said: “That might have been the greatest moment, the greatest night of my career”. It was certainly the highlight of the night, and many fans were happy and excited to see Punk back in the industry.

Over 1.12 million in the US tuned in to see the return of the wrestling star, and they were not left disappointed. Towards the end of his segment, Punk calls out Darby Allin, who Punk says he wants to help. Allin and Sting watched on from the rafters, and seemingly accepted the challenge.

All Out vs Darby Allin

During The First Dance, CM Punk addressed the fact that Darby Allin had been calling out “The Best in the World” on a number of occasions. Now, the former Voice of the Voiceless, will fight Darby Allin at the All Out pay-per-view on September 5th.

It looks like this is going to be Punk’s first official match in AEW, and as it’s only next week, there’s no doubt there will be some form of promo before the Sunday night PPV. Darby Allin has been close with Sting since The Icon arrived in AEW. Sting is also set to be in Allin’s corner at All Out, and we’re certainly excited to see how this one will turn out.

Punk’s Teasing Debut on Dynamite

On last night’s Dynamite, CM Punk made his second appearance in AEW. This time, he was in the ring with producer and commentator Tony Schiavone. CM Punk has already started teasing future arrivals in a similar fashion to Darby Allin did with himself.

Bryan Danielson, known as Daniel Bryan in WWE, is another big name that is currently a free agent. He has been on the wrestling scene for a while, and is certainly a fan favorite.

Punk arrived in the ring with Tony Schiavone, and the fans in attendance in Milwaukee began a chant of “Yes! Yes! Yes!” and Punk acknowledged. Replying to the chant, Punk stated: “That’s someone else’s schtick, and you might just need to be a little bit more patient, OK?”. The crowd’s reaction was an excited one – watch this space.
