(Ed's Note: With the NCAA Tournament officially kicking off on March 18th 20th, we here at TSFJ will be giving the people 16(0) sweet words on 16 (bitter)sweet moments of March Madness past. First up, is Justin Tinsley losing $200 because he decided to wager on Memphis. Oh, and if we go over 160 words...well, our bad.)
Talk about bittersweet.
The 2008 Men's National Title took place during my last full month in undergrad. It's a reminder life would soon flip completely on its head and a four-year paid vacation was juuuussstt about over. More importantly, Memphis/Kansas revives painful memories of finding myself on the wrong side of wager.
Believing '08 was the year Mob Boss John Calipari would finally give the finger to the establishment known as the NCAA and in the unstoppable freshman force that was Derrick Rose, a hundred and change was put down on Memphis. A hundred and change as a damn undergrad was more like a stack, especially if you weren't selling weed or bussing tables to supplement income.
Nevertheless, Sherron Collins alongside Bong Brothers Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur spit in the face of a potential financial flourish. And Memphis bricking free throw after free throw is burned in my mental the same way Ace, Rico and Mitch falling apart on Paid In Full is.
