The Kaepernick Rankings: We're Surprised It Took Trevor Siemian 8 Weeks to Make This List

Welcome to Week 8 of the Kaepernick Rankings, a weekly analysis in which we lowlight some of the worst quarterback play in the NFL.

Through eight weeks of the NFL season, there are a litany of quarterbacks that continue to show they shouldn’t be starting for any team.

Believe it or not, the Kaepernick rankings could be coming to an end. Rumors are surfacing that the heavily scrutinized quarterback may find a roster spot after all. Of course, nothing has been confirmed but according to his attorney, there is a strong possibility that he may find an NFL home in the next ten days.

Just to throw this out there, wouldn’t be amazing to see Kap land with the New England Patriots? I’m not the only one on this bandwagon as The Ringer’s Bill Simmons sent out a tweet about Kap joining his hometown team.

Bill Belichick is one of few coaches that can handle the media scrutiny that will come with signing Kap. Belichick handled controversial players such as Tim Tebow, Corey Dillon, Chad Johnson and Randy Moss with no problem, and he can do the same with Kap.

In addition to that, he would be great to see him paired with Tom Brady, a well-known Donald Trump supporter. Although Brady believes in “Making America Great Again,” he also said that he hopes Kap gets a shot at making a team.

Although the Patriots just traded highly-coveted backup quarterback Jimmy Garappolo to the San Francisco 49ers, chances are slim that Kap will land with New England because one-time Patriot and a regular on the Kap Rankings, Brian Hoyer is available. Yet, the idea of #7 on the sidelines at Gillette Stadium is too tempting to not talk about.

Now that’s out the way, let’s dive into Week 8 of the Kaepernick Rankings.

The Player: Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Box Score: 21/38, 210 Yards, 2 INTs, 7.4 QBR

Jameis is my homie, but I hated it had to be him. I’ve been on the 'Famous Jameis' bandwagon since he was at Florida State, so it pains me to put him in the same category as the other quarterbacks on the list. But when he plays like he did this past Sunday he deserves to be called out. Unlike most quarterbacks, Winston is blessed with a plethora of weapons.

He has two All-Pro caliber wide receivers, a Pro Bowl running back, and a promising talent at tight end. After an exciting summer being featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks, many pegged the Bucs to take over the NFC South. Surprisingly, that hasn’t been the case in large part due to Winston turning the ball over just as he did this past Sunday.

The Player: C.J. Beathard, San Francisco 49ers
The Box Score: 17/36, 167 Yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs, 5.5 QBR

I’m certain that I wasn’t the only one fooled C.J. Beathard’s play prior to this past week. After a strong preseason and a decent showing last week, I thought he was solid enough to get a look at the starting quarterback job going into next season. Well, I was wrong. After a dismal showing in Philly, the 49ers traded for Jimmy Garoppolo to take over the QB spot. Sending a second-round pick for a guy who has only started in two regular season games is pretty telling of the Niners' desperation.

The Player: Trevor Siemian, Denver Broncos
The Box Score: 19/36, 198 Yards, 1TD, 3 INTs, 5.8 QBR

From the start of last season, the Denver Broncos should have found a way to land Colin Kaepernick. If that was the case, the Broncos would be better as a team and he would have an NFL home. It was only a matter of time before Trevor Siemian made the Kap rankings. Against the Kansas City Chiefs, Siemian tossed three interceptions and he spent most of the night under duress. The Broncos have been playing quarterback roulette since Peyton Manning retired, and if Vance Joseph wants to keep his job, it’s time to prepare to move on from the Siemian experience, because he’s not the answer.

The Player: Matt Moore, Miami Dolphins
The Box Score: 25/44, 176 Yards, 2 INTs, 12.8 QBR

The Miami Dolphins have been playing pretty solid as of late. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case against the Baltimore Ravens as they were on the other side of a 40-point drubbing. Although Matt Moore is a solid backup quarterback, he has to shoulder some of the blame for the Dolphins laying an egg this past week.
