Reports circulated this week that AEW is planning to introduce a secondary womenâs championship. The âTBS Championshipâ was reported first by Andrew Zarian from the Mat Men Podcast but further details on this news have emerged from Denise Salcedo.Â
After the AEW Dynamite Grand Slam show on Wednesday, Denise Salcedo reported that the TBS Championship will serve as a sister title to the AEW TNT Championship, which is currently held by Miro. The title does not have a debut date, but which women could be in contention to be the first TBS champion if the belt is introduced?Â
Kris Statlander
The first option for an inaugural TBS champion is âThe Galaxyâs Greatest Alienâ Kris Statlander. A long-serving member of the AEWâs women's division, Statlander has been a constant contender to the AEW womenâs title. She recently faced AEW womenâs champion Britt Baker at AEW All Out but she couldnât quite defeat the champion.
Statlander has combined her impressive character work with her in-ring prowess to become a fan favorite in the womenâs division. The TBS Championship is the perfect secondary title for a performer such as Statlander.Â
Jade Cargill
Jade Cargill has been a prominent feature in recent weeks on AEW television. She created a partnership with Nyla Rose under the tutelage of Vickie Guerrero and she has tallied up an impressive singles record when featuring on AEW. Cargill has had 15 singles matches during her time with the company, and she has a 100% win rate.
Cargill may be in line for an AEW womenâs title shot but with her impressive stature and fearsome demeanor, Cargill seems to be a favorite to become the first TBS champion.Â
Jamie Hayter
A relative newcomer to the AEW womenâs division is Jamie Hayter. The British superstar returned on the August 13th debut episode of AEW Rampage to help Britt Baker. Whilst Britt Baker holds the womenâs title, it could be a smart move by AEW to give the secondary title to Hayter. The pair, alongside Reba, could be booked by the company as the next formidable womenâs stable with both womenâs titles.Â
Hayter hasnât featured as prominently as Cargill or Statlander due to the pandemic, however, this title could be used to elevate a new star like the Brit. Â
