For the first time ever, WWE Summerslam will be inside a football stadium! Not only that, but it is an extremely rare case that WWE has a pay-per-view event on a Saturday night! It’s a very exciting time for wrestling fans, with some highly-anticipated matches on the horizon.
This weekend, the biggest event of the summer takes place – Summerslam is here! Here’s what you need to know about all of the matches happening on one of the biggest stages of them all. With that said, we’d also expect some surprises that we can’t predict!
Confirmed Matches
Universal Championship – Roman Reigns (c) vs John Cena
After confronting the Tribal Chief at Money in the Bank, John Cena is back in the WWE, and he has his sights set on the title. After an entertaining contract signing, that was originally for Roman Reigns vs Finn Balor, Cena was able to get his signature down for the match.
WWE Championship – Bobby Lashley (c) vs Goldberg
The reigning WWE Champion, Bobby Lashley, has re-established himself as a dominant champion, with an impressive win over Kofi Kingston at Money in the Bank. With a victory against Keith Lee on RAW, Goldberg’s entrance music hit as the WWE legend made his return. Will the 54-year-old have one more title run? Or will Lashley continue the best run of his pro wrestling career?
RAW Women’s Championship – Nikki ASH (c) vs Charlotte vs Rhea Ripley
After cashing in her Money in the Bank contract, Nikki A.S.H. became RAW women’s champion for the first time in her career. With Charlotte Flair demanding a rematch, whilst Rhea Ripley also asking the question for a title shot, Summerslam will now feature a triple threat match for the title.
SmackDown Women’s Championship – Bianca Belair (c) vs Sasha Banks
The storyline between these two has continued since WrestleMania back in April. Since, the two have been tag partners, friends, enemies – the lot. Now, Belair will defend her title against Sasha Banks in an eagerly-awaited clash between the ropes.
United States Championship – Sheamus (c) vs Damian Priest
In a highly-anticipated contest, Damian Priest issued the challenge to Sheamus and his US title on RAW, with the champion accepting. Priest has labelled the United States champion a “bully”, while Sheamus has promised to put his opponent back in his place.Â
RAW Tag Team Championship = AJ Styles & Omos (c) vs RKBro
Arguably one of the most entertaining segments and stories in WWE, Randy Orton & Riddle’s tag team partnership has made its way up the pecking order, and are now challenging tag team champions AJ Styles & Omos at Summerslam.
SmackDown Tag Team Championship – The Usos (c) vs The Mysterios
A tag team title rematch sees The Usos defend their SmackDown championships against Rey & Dominik Mysterio. The Usos claimed their titles at Money in the Bank, and following a series of 1v1 matchups against the Mysterios, a rematch will take place on Saturday night.
Edge vs Seth Rollins
Rollins has attacked Edge on a number of occasions, including an attack that cost Edge a win for the Universal Championship at Money in the Bank. Now, Edge has issued his challenge to his opponent, with Seth agreeing to fight after being called “Edge-lite”.
Drew McIntyre vs Jinder Mahal
Two thirds of 3MB, the old friends will face off after Jinder Mahal has interfered with McIntyre on multiple occasions. The Scottish Psychopath beat Mahal’s assistants, Veer and Shanky, resulting in that they won’t be allowed at ringside for Summerslam’s clash.
Alexa Bliss vs Eva Marie
In an eerie storyline, Eva Marie has been using Doudrop to try and deal with Alexa Bliss. However, with Lilly the doll helping out Bliss, there is now a planned match between the two at Summerslam. However, we don’t expect this to be any ordinary match.
