We are back to normal after having a star-studded version of the Kaepernick Rankings last week. Guys like Cam Newton and Philip Rivers played with chips on their shoulders and played pretty well in Week 4 thanks to our rankings (wink, wink). This week, we are fortunate to low light pedestrian quarterbacks that outlandishly have jobs over Colin Kaepernick.
At this point of the season, it’s asinine that Kap hasn’t at least been brought in for a workout. Teams such as the Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans are in dire need of finding a quality quarterback to keep the team afloat while Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota face injuries. The Titans signed Brandon Weeden, which continues to prove the notion that Kap banished from the NFL. To add insult to injury, Matt Barkley, T.J. Yates and Matt McGloin received workouts for the Titans' open QB position. Hell, at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Bubby Brister or Steve DeBerg received a call before Kaepernick.
With that said, Let’s take a look at Week 4 of “How in the hell is this guy playing over Kap?”
The Player: Matt Cassel, Tennessee Titans
The Box Score: 4/10, 21 Yards, 2 Interceptions, 0.2 QBR
Several teams have used the excuse that they can’t bring Colin Kaepernick on board, because of the contrasting styles compared to the starting quarterback. I’m no rocket scientist, but I think Kap would be the perfect backup for Marcus Mariota. They have a similar build, skill set, and the offense Tennessee runs fits Kap. Of course having Kap on the Titans would make perfect sense, but instead, Matt Cassel is the backup. Yes, the same backup quarterback that robbed NFL teams for over $60 million.
In limited duty, the former USC Trojan showed the masses that he has no business having a job over Kap. To no surprise, he was a turnover machine, and if Tennessee continues to stick with Cassel in wake of Mariota’s injury, they can forget about making a playoff push.
The Player: Jay Cutler, Miami Dolphins
The Box Score: 20/28, 164 Yards, 1 INT, 9.6 QBR
Jay Cutler treats NFL games as if it is a Monday in the work world. You know how you feel when it’s the start of the week and you do not feel like being at work? Even though you don’t feel like being there, the adult thing to do is to suck it up and do what you have to do to make it to the next day. As the great DragonflyJonez eloquently stated, Cutler is that guy that does not care, because he doesn't have to. In watching Cutler’s performance in London against the Saints, it was clear he didn’t give a damn.
Knowing Cutler’s demeanor he probably thinks that London, England, and London, Kentucky offers the same feel of attraction for tourists. As a result of Cutler having a case of the Mondays (on a Sunday morning!), the Dolphins did not put a single point on the scoreboard. From day one, Cutler has shown that he doesn’t care. Who shows up to their first press conference to say that he is not in shape? Um…. Jay Cutler does. The Dolphins are actually a decent team, and they ruined their playoff chances by bringing in a quarterback who does the least to get by.
The Player: Mike Glennon, Chicago Bears
The Box Score: 21/33 218 Yards, 1 TD, 2 Interceptions, 18.7 QBR
Let’s be honest here. Mike Glennon is one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the past five years. It’s mind-boggling that the Chicago Bears paid him over $18 million in guaranteed money as a stop-gap quarterback. Prior to landing in Chicago, he did nothing to prove that he was a viable option to start for any team. To no surprise, the Glennon experience is over after 4 games. After laying an egg on Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers, the Bears regime decided it’s time to start the Mitch Trubisky era.
The Player: Deshone Kizer, Cleveland Browns
The Box Score: 16/34, 118 Yards, 1 Interception, 5.8 QBR

Things continue to trend downwards for the S-Curl aficionado. The rookie quarterback had yet another forgettable outing, but this time it was against in-state rival, the Cincinnati Bengals. It’s obvious the talent is there, but it’s hard have success when you aren’t surrounded by any talent.
