The late 1980's was the golden era of boy bands. New Edition, New Kids on the Block, and Menudo exemplified the 80s era with loud clothes, big hair, wacky dance moves, and of course the perfect blend of looks and music that made fans adore them.
Not to slight the previously mentioned boy bands, but an elder sextet assembled in the Windy City of Chicago didn't go on to sell millions of records, but if they weren't occupied by the rigors of the NBA it may have materialized.
Charles Oakley, Horace Grant, Scottie Pippen, Rory Sparrow, Sedale Threatt, and the greatest basketball player of all-time Michael Jordan performed their own variant of Kool Moe Dee's hit song, "How You Like Me Now".
This video is hilarious for several reasons:
- I use to perform this song in the mirror as a kid in any mirror that I could find (sorry for the lack of video footage).
- Charles Oakley isn't a bad lead singer/rapper (I only said that so he doesn't find me and kick my ass).
- The dancing trio of Grant, Pippen and Jordan is vastly underrated.
- Thank goodness, they performed the song before Oakley was traded for Bill Cartwright.
- Threatt and Sparrow are the ideal backup dancers/singers that are just happy to be there, unlike the Temptations David Ruffin (RIP)
- This video may have been the inspiration behind Jordan teaming up with 1980's R&B group Full Force for an encore performance.
